Oxfordshire Netball Awards Evening

120 netballers attended the Oxfordshire Netball Awards Evening last night at Witney Lakes Resort, it was an evening of celebration, with recognition for Sue Blackshaw for her ‘tireless dedication’ to netball. Sue recieved the Special Recognition Award for her outstanding contribution in running the project on behalf of the netballers, that has given us six floodlit netball courts in Oxfordshire. Sue commended all the volunteers who have helped her with this mammoth achievement, and all clubs and the league officers for their contributions and in coping with the change so well moving to Central Venue.

Challow Netball Club won the Club of the Year Award, Leanne Palmer is Junior Unsung Hero, and Nicki McDonald is Senior Unsung Hero 2012. Rhonda Forbes-Smith won the Teacher of the Year Award, Clare Merriman is Umpire of the Year, and Yolande Owen is Coach of the Year 2012. Well done to all those individuals who were nominated, and especially to our winners. There is a lot of hard work and dedication to netball across the county and it was great to celebrate it at this event.

Thanks go to the judges, Helen Wynn (England Netball), Denise Brown (Oxford Sports Partnership), Jon Roycroft (Director of Sport, Oxford University).

Some of the winners have already been invited to the South Region round of the Goalden Globes on June 16th. Good luck!

Maggie Fisher and the Oxfordshire Netball Development Board hosted the event, and following the awards, the netballers and a few partners got on the dance floor to dance the night away. Here’s to the next one in 2014!

Apologies, the Oxfordshire League trophies were not able to be presented at the event, and we missed the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of all those who had won their divisions. The trophies will be presented at the ONL and ONDB AGM’s on Tues 3rd July 2012.

Watch out for Sue & Lil, or new Development Officer on BBC Oxford news. This is likely to be on a Friday slot in the 6.30pm news on TV – probably next week (25th May) – although we don’t know for sure. We’re hoping for some good shots of the matches from last Monday at The Community Arena – so do make sure you tune in to see who you can spot! It would be great if anyone can series-link the BBC Oxford News for the next week or so – i’d hate for us to miss it as we are travelling to Witney tomorrow for the Oxfordshire Netball Awards!

Charity Social Netball Tournament – 23rd June

Raising money for Cancer Research UK. This tournament is for Back-2-Netball and social netball teams from across Oxfordshire. It’s on the 23rd June at The Community Arena, Marston.

Back 2 Netball at The Community Arena

Oxfordshire Netball are launching a new Back 2 Netball session at The Community Arena at Marston, on the 31st May at 7.30pm. Cost is £3 to join in and get playing and having fun! The session is aimed at women who have not played netball for a good while, and are thinking of returning to the sport or want to give it a go for a few weeks. This is a new session, and you’ll be able to see other netball playing on the night with teams playing in the Oxfordshire League nearby.

Oxfordshire School Games – help needed 5th July

If any of you/or anyone within your clubs are available to help support the leaders/umpires from Banbury School at the Oxfordshire School Games High 5 Netball Final on 5 July, your time would be very much appreciated! The Games will be at Iffley Road, Oxford (the netball competition will be played on the courts at Magdalen College) from 10:00am-2:00pm. If you are able to support the competition, even just for a few hours, please could you let Lil Roe know (lil.roe@englandnetball.co.uk).

The Oxfordshire Netball Awards night is coming up fast. It’s an evening to celebrate netball in Oxfordshire and it’s a great opportunity for netballers to meet off the court, to dress up, eat and have a good dance!

This year’s event is at Witney Lakes Resort, Friday May 18th, 7pm – 12. There is a sit-down meal at 7.30pm, with wine included. This is followed by the Awards, Club of the Year, Coach of the Year, Umpire of the Year, Unsung Hero, Junior Unsung Hero, and Netball Teacher Award, as well as our Special Recognition Award. We’ll play Backwards Bingo throughout the evening, and then there is a disco to dance the night away!

We have so much to celebrate this year, with the Opening of the Netball Centre at the Community Arena and the change to Central Venue netball in the Oxfordshire League, the massive progress and growth for the Cherwell & District League, success with the Academy and Satelite programme and the introduction of High 5 netball to the Junior League. So join us in an evening of celebration!

Club Secretaries will be receiving by e-mail all the paperwork for Wednesday’s meeting this weekend or on Monday – agenda, last meeting’s minutes, rules, details for duty team, neutral umpiring etc.

Please make sure it all reaches the club members who are coming to the meeting! 7.15 for 7.30 start at the Community Arena.

England Netball Taster Affiliation Summer 2012

As you know, England Netball are offering Taster Affiliations again this summer!

Members joining under the Taster Rate scheme will have access to the full range of EN benefits, including insurance and Netball magazine. The Taster Rate will apply to new and returning members once only; the full affiliation rate will apply from renewal in September 2012.

This category of membership is available to new or returning members who have not been a member of EN within the last three years, i.e not since 2008/09 season.

Clubs will not be able to submit Taster Rates through the Online Affiliation System. You need to fill-in a paper form and send this to England Netball.

This year the Taster Rate has been set to give new and returning members the full benefits of EN membership for five months from 1st April 2012 to 31st August 2012.
Please note, if you download this from the England Netball Website (www.englandnetball.co.uk), you will need to add in the figure for the County & Regional portion of the affiliation. You need to fill in the “taster affiliation” form and the “participants details” form.

Fees: Over 18 = £14.40 (England Netball £11.70; Oxfordshire £2; Region £0.70p)
Under 18’s = £9.40 (England Netball £7.40; Oxfordshire £2, Region = no fee)

If you are affiliating to an existing club, you just add up the number of new participants (details of these participants should be identified on the “participants details” form), you will need to include the club’s England Netball ID number.
If you are a new club, then you need to affiliate the minimum subscription of ten participants, as indicated on the Taster Affiliation form. Please remember to add in ten x county/regional fees as well.
