Oxfordshire Netball Clubs have all been playing their part to fundraise for a six court floodlit netball centre, which is essential for the development of Netball within Oxfordshire.  The facility will allow Oxfordshire Netball to increase participation with more senior and junior players, we well as additional development such as disability netball and corporate netball.  We can also host tournament events locally, and the courts provide essential opportunities to develop our Umpire and Coaching networks for developing skills and mentouring new umpires.  The Netball Centre is being built as part of the Community Arena project at Court Place Farm, just off the A40 at Marston.

A massive congratulations to all the netballers who have been busy fundraising in their clubs, to help us reach the £36,000 target!  Highlights have been a calendar, mixed netball tournaments, quiz nights and disco’s, all raising funds for the Netball Centre, which we hope will be completed ready for the 2011 Winter Season.

Following the success of the first three Young Leaders’ Camps, held annually since 2008,  England Netball are again working with UK:Athletics and Gymnastics England to offer one hundred and fifty 16-19 year olds the opportunity to attend a four day residential camp, where they will get the chance to develop their leadership and volunteering skills alongside likeminded individuals.

For those of you who remember the previous YLC events, you will remember that the event has grown to be an integral part of our youth volunteering and leadership programme, with 140 netball leaders having benefitted from the experience over the last three years.

What is the Leaders Camp?

The camp returns to Bradfield College in Berkshire, and will run from Sunday 14th August – Wednesday 17th August 2011. Whilst at the camp, the young people will focus upon the development of leadership skills through sport, whilst participating in a range of practical and theory based sessions.

The event will be run by professional staff from the three sports, with a programme that offers a range of workshops including club management, personal development planning, activity leadership, officiating, coaching & event management. There will also be time built in for relaxation and evening social activities, coordinated by trained staff.

England Netball is offering 50 of our most dedicated young volunteers from across the Country, the opportunity to attend the Camp completely FREE of charge (including all accommodation, workshops and meals). Attendees are required to transport themselves to the camp, however there may be the opportunity to share transport with others. If it is felt appropriate, Clubs, Schools, Colleges or County Associations can make a contribution towards travelling costs.

Who will be attending?

To be eligible, the leaders need to meet the following criteria:
- 16-19 years old at the time of the camp
- Actively volunteering in netball within a club, school or community setting
- Enthusiastic, motivated and committed to developing their skills and experience

Unfortunately, to ensure the maximum impact of the event, we are unable to accept applications from those people who have previously attended the camp.

What Next?

We are looking for young people involved in leadership and volunteering, who you feel will benefit from attending. Once you have identified these young people, they will need to complete an application form at http://www.englandnetball.co.uk/youth/Young_Leaders_Camp by Wednesday 4th May. If you could forward this to them as soon as possible, it will obviously allow them maximum time to complete it. Alternatively, it may be more appropriate to pass it out to your other contacts, in order that they can distribute.

Applicants will be notified of their success by Friday 27th May.

Please take a look at the EN website for the position statement regarding CRB and Vetting & Barring. http://www.englandnetball.co.uk/safeguarding/CRB.php  In summary they acknowledged that there are proposed changes at governmental level, however the current systems and recommendations within EN stand as they have done for the last year or so – where all those coaching and managing juniors need a CRB check.  EN are also planning a phased roll-out of CRB’s for umpires and officials.
